New High School Name Selected
The board of education approved the name Metea Valley High School for the district's new school scheduled to open in 2009. Like Waubonsie and Neuqua, Metea was a Potawatomi Chief. After sustaining an injury in the Fort Dearborn Massacre, Chief Metea became a well-respected negotiator for his tribe and was known for being a skilled orator. He was also an advocate for the education of American Indian youth.
